NBA PRESENTATION DECK

Deck Design

Gen Z is less into pro sports than millennials—so the NBA is rethinking how to engage younger fans as it plans for the future. This was a totally hypothetical project, where I imagined the NBA seeking an agency partner, and my team answering the brief. I took on the role of deck designer, building a dynamic and visually compelling template for my team to add ideas and content.

Visual Identity

I explored the deck’s visual direction—colors, typography, imagery, and the overall tone it would convey. I drew inspiration from a recent and successful NBA initiative, the NBA In-Season Tournament, with its retro aesthetic defined by bold colors and playful typography. Additionally, since the pitch is centered on the league’s future, I incorporated elements of modern design.

With a direction in mind, I developed a few moodboards to explore ways to seamlessly blend retro and contemporary styles.

The final art direction below leverages bold and bright color blocking, dynamic-feeling shapes and lines, and duotone cutout imagery.

Iterative Process

I explored a range of layouts and how imagery could be arranged and layered with text. I also refined the slide templates, considering how elements like page numbers, section titles, and headers/footers would be presented. Through an iterative process, I developed multiple versions of different slide types—including infographics, section breakers, and narrative-driven storytelling slides.

Final Creative

The template serves as a flexible framework, establishing the visual approach for infographics, charts, & graphs, and the combination of full-bleed imagery with cutout elements. It also shows the color palette, the tonal range of imagery, and typography.

As a solo project responding to a hypothetical brief, there were no strategists or copywriters involved. Therefore, I took the opportunity to explore these roles by conducting research and developing a narrative structure. I organized the deck into key thematic sections, applied the templated slides throughout, and built out a few slides with content (and left others with placeholder copy).

Below is the official style guide, followed by the full deck of nearly 40 slides—feel free to explore!
